Smart India Hackathon is an initiative by the Government of India aimed at addressing pressing problems faced by government departments and private organizations through innovative solutions developed by students.
Smart India Hackathon started in 2017 with only a software chapter. In 2018 the hardware chapter was introduced. Four successful editions have been completed namely SIH 2017, SIH 2018, SIH 2019, SIH 2022, SIH 2023,SIH 2024. Due to COVID-19 SIH 2020 was cancelled. Now Smart India Hackathon is at its 8th edition.
Each team must have 6 members including Team Leader.
Minimum one female member is compulsory in each team.
It can be team of all six female members also.
Yes, students from different branches or departments can form a team, but all members must be from the same institute.
In Smart India Hackathon (SIH), "Problem Statement" is a real-world challenge given by ministries, industries, or government organizations.
In Smart India Hackathon (SIH), each problem statement submitted by ministries, government departments, or industries has a unique Problem Statement ID. For example: 25046 is the Problem Statement ID for Problem Statement "Smart Waste Segregation and Recycling System".
Each team must select one Problem Statement for their idea submission.
Problem statements are available on the official SIH portal and also on our website under the "Imp*-Links" section, labeled as "SIH Problem Statements".
Yes, more than one team can choose the same Problem Statement.
No, teams cannot change their Problem Statement after submission.
The Internal Hackathon will be organized on 11th September 2025 at GEC Vaishali, after the launch of the problem statements on 25th August 2025, which are now available.
